Sculptural Ethiopian Tribal Chair, 20th Century

A characterful African tribal chair, believed to originate from Ethiopia and dating from the 20th century. Made from solid wood, the chair features a remarkably pure construction, with a long, low seat resting on four substantial feet and a separate sculptural backrest inserted directly into the seat. The generous proportions and gently curved backrest give the piece a strong architectural presence. Particularly beautiful is the deeply aged surface, showing decades of wear, marks and irregularities that have developed into a rich, warm patina. These traces of age give the chair its distinctive character and depth. The restrained construction and powerful silhouette give the chair an almost modern quality, allowing it to sit beautifully between traditional African furniture and modern sculpture. Its simplicity, proportions and expressive surface make it a remarkable object from every angle. A highly decorative and characterful piece that can be appreciated as a low chair as well as a sculptural object within a contemporary interior. Good original condition with extensive wear and patina consistent with age and use. Measurements: H 53 x W 30.5 x D 93 x SH 12 cm
