Oleum is a coil-thrown earthenware vase engobed with terra sigillata, hand polished and raku fired in metallic gaz reduction. Its slender, elongated body tapers into a fine, flared neck with a deep metallic black finish. Fire and smoke have marked the surface with flashes of iridescence, veils of bronze and grey, and a grainy, mineral texture that rises from the base. As the light changes, the vase seems to change with it. No firing can be repeated, so this piece is one of a kind. It stands as a single sculptural statement. Made by hand in France by Juliette Pénélope Pépin.
