Lipari Vase – Terra sigillata, smoke-fired raku

Price1,100 €
One-of-a-kind piece
  • LIMITED EDITION WORK
  • INCLUDES A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY
Lipari is a coil-thrown earthenware vase engobed with terra sigillata, hand polished and raku fired in metallic gas reduction. Its full, rounded body gathers into a short, narrow neck that opens into a fine, flared lip. Warm tones of ochre, rust and burnt sienna move across the surface, interrupted by deep sweeps of smoke-black where the flame and reduction have taken hold. A fine, striated texture runs around the body, recalling bark or volcanic stone, and catches the light differently with every angle. No firing can be repeated, so this piece is one of a kind. It stands as a single sculptural statement. Made by hand in France by Juliette Pénélope Pépin.

FAQ
Can this vase hold water for fresh flowers, or is it decorative only? Raku-fired earthenware is often porous.
This vase is intended for decorative use only and is not designed to hold water for fresh flowers.
Is the interior sealed or glazed to prevent seepage, or left raw as traditional raku?
The interior is left raw and unsealed, in keeping with traditional raku craftsmanship.
Does the piece come with a certificate of authenticity and is it signed by the artist Juliette Pénélope Pépin?
Yes, the piece is signed by the artist Juliette Pénélope Pépin and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
What are the recommended care and cleaning instructions for the smoke-fired raku surface?
To dust, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth or a soft brush. Avoid water, detergents, solvents and abrasive sponges, as these can dull the polish or lift the smoke markings. Always handle the piece with clean, dry hands, holding it by the body rather than the neck or lip. As raku earthenware is porous and not watertight, place a glass or waterproof liner inside before arranging fresh flowers; dried stems may be arranged directly. Display indoors on a stable surface, away from damp areas and heat sources. This piece is decorative and not suitable for food or drink.
Is the base flat and stable, and is it finished (e.g. felt pad or protective coating) to avoid scratching surfaces?
The base is flat and stable, though left unprotected, so we recommend using a felt pad or placing it on a protected surface to avoid scratching.
The description states it is one of a kind — is this part of a numbered series or a true single unique piece?
This is a true one-of-a-kind piece, created as a single unique work rather than part of a numbered series.
