Functionalist Pewter Jar by GAB, Sweden, 1930s

Price750 €
One-of-a-kind piece
Lidded pewter jar by GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget), Sweden, 1935. Clean lines, ribbed decoration and a polished ball finial make it a fine example of Swedish functionalism, the modernist style that defined the 1930s–40s with its focus on simple forms, practical use and honest materials. Founded in 1867, GAB was one of Scandinavia’s leading silversmiths and produced some of the finest Swedish pewter of the era. This piece is carefully made, equally at home as a decorative object or holding small keepsakes. The jar is stamped with GAB’s maker’s mark and the date letter I8 for 1935.
